North: Identity, Photography, Fashion – 6th January – 19th March 2017

Held at the Open Eye Gallery, Lou Stoppard and Adam Murray have co-curated the ‘North’ exhibition to explore the way that the North of England is depicted, constructed, and celebrated through photographs, atwork, and fashion collections. The show will feature early works from photographers Jamie Hawkesworth and Alisdair McLellan, plus lisoric prints from Glen Luchford and Nick Knight, and original prints from Luchford’s first ever shoot. Work from contemporary artists such as Mark Leckey and Jeremy Deller will also be shown alongside the classic works. Fashion garments include a Raf Simons parka from the renowned A/W 2003 Control collection, which featured graphics from Peter Saville’s archive and is currently valued at $20,000, which will be featured alongside new collaborative works, such as a project by Hacienda designer Ben Kelly and American fashion designer Virgil Abloh. Candid interviews will also be presented by SHOWstudio, talking with talents from the North about the influence of the region on visual style.

LEAP Dance Festival – 1st March – 12 March 2017

Make Liverpool are holding the LEAP Dance Festival, which will explores the theme of Camouflage. The festival will examine dance as the invisible art form of Liverpool, to shine a light on dance in the city. Each performance will question identity, misconceptions, and the untold stories in diversity. The festival has attracted an impressive line-up of national and internationally renowned dancers and choreographers such as Gary Clarke, Barrowland Ballet, and Hetain Patel, and will also offer pro-masterclasses for aspiring dancers, plus workshops and a community focused day.

MCM Liverpool Comic Con – 11th March – 12th March 2017

The perfect exhibition for any fan of movies, comics, video games, sci-fi, anime or cosplay! Exhibition Centre Liverpool will be transformed by MCM Comic Con into a massive celebration of modern pop culture. Sam J. Jones, best known for portraying the iconic hero Flash Gordon, and Trina Nishimuram who voices the female lead, Mikasa Ackerman, in Attack On Titan are set to make appearances. Visitors will also have the opportunity to take part in eSports competitions, explore a Comic Village full of artists and writers, enjoy extravagant costumes in the Cosplay Masquerade, and meet special guests from the world of film and TV.

2017 Gymnastics British Championships – 16th March 2017

British Gymnastics stars will be competing at the Echo Arena, displaying their strength, control, and creative flair as they battle it out for the British Champions crown. Last year, Max Whitlock and Claudia Fragapane took the prestigious senior all-around titles, but will they be able to reclaim them this year? Last year’s awe-inspiring performances sold out, and this year promises to be even better!

Russell Howard Live – 30th March 2017

Russell Howard is returning to the live stage for the first time in three years. Set to be his biggest global tour to date, Round the World promises to be packed full of laughter and anecdotes. Time Out Magazine has dubbed Howard a ‘Comedy Superstar’, and he’s one of the best-selling acts in British stand-up so you know the show will be one to remember!
